At a Live Nation promoted concert in Michigan superstar Bruno Mars announced that the two (Live Nation and Mars) would be donating $1,000,000 to help the victims of the Flint, Michigan water crisis. The crisis is ongoing, three years on, yet does not continue to receive a lot of media attention.
Residents of Flint, MI have had to deal with severely contaminated water in their taps after government officials tried to save money when doing work on the city’s water source. The affected water is the residents’ drinking and cleaning water but the contamination makes it completely unusable and extremely dangerous to their health..
Mars surprised fans at the Palace in Auburn Hills, Michigan during an August 12 concert where he said he and the promoter of his “24k Magic World Tour” – Live Nation – would donate the proceeds from ticket sales of the sold-out show.
According to HypeBot:
The donation will go to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint to help with the city’s ongoing water crisis.”I’m very thankful to the Michigan audience for joining me in supporting this cause. Ongoing challenges remain years later for Flint residents, and it’s important that we don’t forget our brothers and sisters affected by this disaster. As people, especially as Americans, we need to stand together to make sure something like this never happens in any community ever again,” Mars said in a subsequent media release.
