Questlove really doesn’t want Chrisette Michele to perform at President-Elect Donald Trump’s Inauguration this Friday. To the extent that he is willing to pay her.
He expressed his sentiments via Twitter on Wednesday (January 18)saying “I’d pay Chrisette to NOT perform ????”. Talib Kweli jumped in saying he would chip in too.
The bill for Donald Trump’s inauguration has been underwhelming to say the least with artists refusing to perform due to Trump’s incendiary rhetoric throughout his campaign. Artists who agreed to perform, such as singer Jennifer Holiday and Bruce Springsteen cover band The B Street Band, have also dropped out due to the public’s reaction about being involved in the ceremony. Michele, who’s since received a lot of backlash for agreeing to perform, is set to join a lineup of that includes 3 Doors Down, Toby Keith, Lee Greenwood, Travis Greene and Sam Moore.
The New York Daily News reports that she was initially asked to perform the track “Intentional” with Jonathan McReynolds, Tye Tribbett and the aforementioned Travis Greene. But McReynolds and Tribett backed out and now she will be left to perform her own solo set.
Another person who declined an invitation to perform is apparently 2 Chainz – while Kanye West was surprisingly not even invited to perform.
