George Michael streams on Spotify have grown by just above 3,000 percent since his untimely death on Christmas Day.
The British singer, songwriter, and producer, who rose to fame with the group Wham! and with a successful solo career thereafter, was found dead on Sunday after what is said to have been heart failure.
As the news of Michael’s death spread across the world, streams of his solo music have seen a 3,158 percent increase globally, according to Spotify. The top most streamed songs from his solo catalog and his music with Wham! are “Last Christmas,” “Careless Whisper,” “Faith,” “Freedom! ’90,” and “Wake Me up Before You Go-Go.”
The stream increase was calculated by analyzing streams of Michael’s solo catalog. Streaming data from Monday was then compared with the same time period from the previous day (Dec. 25). Read more…
