Forbes – the magazine of money money money – has again released their yearly roundup of the highest paid earners in the Hip-Hop business. The culture has spawned a multi billion dollar industry, which like any industry has its heavyweights.
Dubbed “Hip Hop Cash Kings” the 2015 roundup features some of the biggest names in Rap music including Drake, Dr. Dre and more. The highest earners on the list? Sean “Diddy” Combs and Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter.
Rolling Stone summed it up nicely:
Diddy, Jay Z, Drake, Dr. Dre and Pharrell are the world’s five “Highest Paid Rap Acts” of 2015, according to Forbes’ latest hip-hop cash round-up. Diddy, ranking Number One, reportedly earned $60 million in the past year from a variety of investments: Ciroc vodka, water brand AQUAhydrate, Revolt TV and clothing line Sean John.
Diddy is also working on a new album – No Way Out 2, a follow-up to the original No Way Out from back in the day.
Coming in at #2 was Jay-Z who made $56 million, his tour with wifey Beyonce being what boosted his earnings so much. Drake was sitting at #3 having pulled in $39.5 million. It’s the best year ever for Drake with his 50 shows (each making an average of a cool $1,000,000.00), Sprite and Nike endorsements and the 495,000 unit selling If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.
But it’s gotta be an annoying poke in the gut for Dr. Dre, coming in last year with $620 million (thanks to the Apple/Beats deal). That deal made him the highest musician (out of ALL musicians) paid last year – not just in Hip Hop. This year Dre slipped down to #4 with a still VERY nice $33 million.
The #5 spot goes to super producer Pharrell Williams with $32 million thanks to touring, music production and of course his role on the hit TV-show The Voice . Others included in the list were Kendrick Lamar and Wiz Khalifa.
