With a little over a week left in office, President Obama delivered his last official address as commander-in-chief from McCormick Place in Chicago Tuesday night (Jan. 10). He highlighted his administration’s achievements in the last eight years and gave hope for the uncertain future ahead.
The emotional speech, which was close to an hour long, ended with the iconic statement, “Yes we did” to mirror the statement that began it all: “Yes we can”.
The President concluded by asking the American people to remember the strength displayed throughout the country’s history. “I am asking you to hold fast to that faith written into our founding documents; that idea whispered by slaves and abolitionists, that spirit sung by immigrants and homesteaders and those who marched for justice, that creed reaffirmed by those who planted flags from foreign battlefields to the surface of the moon, a creed at the core of every American whose story is not yet written,” he said.
