Leroy Mitchell – a musician also known as Prince Phillip Mitchell – is reportedly suing Kanye West and Solange Knowles (Beyonce’s sister), for apparently using samples from one of his songs from the 1970s.

Mitchell says his song “If We Can’t Be Lovers” was used without permission in the song “Everything I Am” by Kanye and “Fuck The Industry” by Solange. The latter was released in 2010 while Kanye’s was released in 2007 on his “Graduation” album.

Mitchell is listed as a co-writer on both tracks in the BMI database, although he is only now going legal. According to TMZ, he is seeking damages, as well as injunctions to block radio play and live performances of both allegedly infringing songs.
