LA Reid has just signed Atlanta rapper of Outkast fame, Big Boi, to his new company Hitco Entertainment. The company is a relaunch of a company started by Reid in 1996, which he has been working on independently for some time now. Big Boi is Hitco’s first official signing.
The music biz veteran was CEO of Sony’s Epic Records prior to this, but stepped down following harassment allegations. He’s working with Charles Goldstuck – co-founder of J Records – at Hitco. Apparently the duo have raised over $100 million to launch the company with offices in New York, LA and Atlanta.
According to Complete Music Update:
The copyright for Big Boi’s latest album, ‘Boomiverse’, is already listed as being owned by Hitco on digital services, having originally been released by Epic last year. Distribution is reportedly being handled by Empire, which also reps Top Dawg Entertainment, among others.
Reid and Big Boi have history, as Reid was the original person to sign Outkast back in 1992.
