The last few years have been great for hard-hitting music biopics. The global success of the N.W.A movie Straight Outta Compton and the much-anticipated release of All Eyez On Me, the Tupac Shakur, biopic are two highlights of this trend. Add to that, the New Edition story, The Get Down and more projects in the works – Hip-Hop on the big and small screen is blowing up.
And now it’s been announced that Snoop Dogg and Daz Dillinger – two west coast Rap OGs – are shopping around a television drama based on Tha Dogg Pound. The yet-untitled project also has executive producers Damian Zellous and Kenya Ware on board.
The group were a part of Death Row Records, one of the biggest Hip-Hop labels at the time which steadily flowed through controversy and drama throughout its existence.
AllHipHop reports Daz as saying:
“We saw Dre leave, Pac murdered, and we were forced to run the company when Suge Knight went back to prison. Our perspective is honest and unique,” said Dillinger. “There are countless stories that the world has never heard about those early days.”
