The controversial NY radio host Taxstone appeared in court on Tuesday (January 17) over his alleged involvement in the deadly shooting at Irving Plaza last May involving rapper Troy Ave.
He was officially charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon and buying an illegal gun. His bail was set at $500,000. Although his movements are restricted, he will still be permitted to record his “Tax Season” podcast from the comfort of his house.
Kenneth Montgomery, Tax’s lawyer, said he believes his client will make bail in about a week.
Tax’s beef with Troy Ave began with an exchange of words on the internet but this quickly escalated.
This led to the altercation backstage at Irving Plaza on May 25th 2016. During the incident, someone opened fire leaving Troy and three other people injured. Troy’s bodyguard Ronald “Banga” McPhatter was killed in the rumpus.
Footage from the scene captured part of the fight showing Taxstone bursting out of a door, with Troy Ave following, and blasting away at Tax as he scurried through the crowded venue.
Troy, born Ronald Collins, was eventually charged – however, he was only hit with attempted murder charges and he was released on $500,000 bail, only for him to be shot again a few months later in December, on Christmas Day.
