Lee O'Denat

WorldstarHipHop Founder, Lee O’Denat, aka Q, has died in Southern California.

He was 43.

TMZ first reported the news, stating that Q had died overnight on Monday (January 23).

According to other reports, the media mogul and father of three passed away unexpectedly from a suspected heart attack.

Q launched WSHH (referred to as “WorldStar”) in 2005. It is a site known for posting and premiering viral content, including hip-hop videos and mixtapes, as well as catchy clips.

Being the creator and face of the site gave him a larger than life persona. He was known for his huge smile, great sense of humor and the uncanny ability to find and promote viral videos.

According to a recent New York Times profile, Q was of Haitian origin and brought up by a single mother.

It was an early job at Circuit City that birthed his love for computers.

As reported by New York Daily News, one of his first online ventures was an e-commerce site that sold mixtapes by his famous friend DJ Whoo Kid, known for his collaborations with Queens rapper 50 Cent.

WSHH was not always received well. It’s gotten its fair share of backlash for using material without giving credit. But its popularity has remained solid. According to a 2011 VIBE feature on WSHH, Q said that the site attracted “roughly” 2 million unique visitors a day.

Tributes have begun to hit social media. O’Denat’s close friend and celebrity jeweler Ben Baller also posted a collage of images of himself with Q. “I really am at a loss for words. I just spoke to you last night,” read the caption. “You were more than just a friend and brother and even more than a godfather to my first born. You were my light and my inspiration. We traveled the world and I feel sometimes I owe you the world. I love you Lee Odenat. I can never thank you enough for what you have done for me and my family. It’s #WSHH forever bro. #Worldstar#Qworldstar #Queens” Read more…
